The Missouri NEA Public Relations Committee and the Missouri Bar Young Lawyers Section co-sponsored the annual Law Day Essay Contest. Students were asked to respond to the following essay prompt:

“No courts. No justice. No freedom. This year’s Law Day Essay Contest theme highlights the role of the nation’s courts in our constitutional democracy and fosters public understanding about the judiciary. Consider what courts are and what the principles of justice and freedom represent. Without our courts, we would have neither justice nor freedom.”

Kevin Jiang won first place and Nicholas Rausch was a finalist in this annual competition.  Both are fifth-graders at Spoede Elementary School.

First-place winners receive $300 U.S. savings bonds, second-place winners receive $200 U.S. savings bonds, and third-place winners receive $150 U.S. savings bonds from the Missouri Bar.

Kevin Jiang is seen here receiving his first place award at a banquet in Jefferson City in May 2012.
